The week before Valentine’s Day, the Campus Organization for Social Activities (COSA) decided to spread some romance around campus. The organization sold mailbox roses in the MSC for four days. Students wrote a message to their sweetheart and paid a dollar or donated a can of food, and the messages were delivered with a fake rose to campus mailboxes on Valentine’s Day. A total of 241 roses were delivered to friends and significant others, brightening everyone’s Valentine’s Day and bringing a unique new event to the COSA calendar.
But the giving didn’t stop there. COSA members donated 100% of the earnings to the Lamoni Food Pantry, totaling $159 and 83 canned food items. COSA Representatives also volunteered their time that week planning the event, selling roses, and delivering them to mailboxes.
Kaylee Burkhiser, Interim COSA President, said, “It was a really fun fundraising event to put on the week prior to Valentine’s Day! Not only letting students appreciate their friends and significant others but also being able to give back to the community was heartwarming.”
This event was the perfect way to spread Valentine’s festivities both on and off campus. As the weather gets warmer, stay tuned for more events from COSA!
